Poker Night At The Inventory Meme (My Picks)

Description

Thanks to :icondoctorworm1987: for creating this fun little meme! In Telltale's Poker Night at the Inventory four different characters from various different franchises can be seen playing poker games at a mysterious establishment which allows for this sort of thing, with yourself as the fifth silent player. The second game especially is fun with Sam from the Sam and Max games, Ash Campbell from the Evil Dead movies, Claptrap from the Borderlands game series and Brock Samson from the Venture Bros cartoon (voiced by the awesome Patrick Warburton). They are joined by the dealer who is none other than the homicidal female computer GLADOS from the Portal games. A nice range of players in my opinion who make something as simple as poker fun with their various conversations.

So in this meme I had to pick four characters who might be an interesting set of characters, using the version of the meme where I would need a television character, a movie character, a video game character and a comic character, and also a dealer who could be from anywhere. After a lot of thought these were my choices. (As with Night at the Inventory 2 I also briefly mention a locale which could be unlocked to play as a theme in the game.)

Television Character: Brian Griffin (Family Guy) Brian seemed a logical choice since the games have often gone for a cartoon character for an older audience, and of all the Family Guy or American Dad based characters Brian seemed the most logical (I guess Roger the Alien would have been a good alternate pick in that vein). Plus he is another talking dog for a Poker Night game! Brian is a very cultured fellow with a liking for drinks and fine music, so ironically he'd probably be the best behaved and straight guy in the group, but he can definitely quib some well timed and intellectual jokes, and I could see him as an excellent poker player. Ideally he would voiced by Seth McFarlane and Stewie could make a few timed appearances in the game as Max did. The Drunken Clam would be an unlockable Inventory location, complete with Peter and Quagmire making appearances. (And Joe too if Patrick could do a few lines!)

Movie Character - Peter Venkman (Ghostbusters) For the movie character since Night At the Inventory 2 had Ash I figured a well received 80's character from film would be the best choice, and I soon latched onto Peter Venkman from the original Ghostbusters movies. A little flippant and often arrogant Peter is still considered to be the best sociably on the team, even if he is often womanizing and cynical. Of course his wit and charm makes him a perfect fit for the game and I could easily imagine him sparking off one liners about his ghost busting exploits. Getting Bill Murray would likely never happen but a voice alike would be fine, unless Dave Coulier who voiced the character in Real Ghostbusters could play him instead? Hook And Ladder No 8 where the Ghostbusters are based would be an unlockable Inventory location, with Slimer making an appearance amongst other ghosts?

Video Game Character - John Marston (Red Dead Redemption) This one was the trickiest since initially I wanted a Telltale game character, but none really struck me as perfect choices (I considered Handsome Jack's Hologram from Tales From The Borderlands, though he really seemed more suited to being the Dealer). And then I suddenly thought of John Marston from one of my all time favourite games (and one I hope gets a HD port for PS4 someday, hint hint Sony) Red Dead Redemption by Rockstar. A former outlaw who is forced to hurt members of his old gang by the government when they use his family as leverage, John Marston is a complex man of the Old West who seeks to put his bad days behind him and be a good husband and father, but never seems to escape his past. Also in a parallel universe he fights Zombies so there's that. One big part of Red Dead Redemption was that you could play in poker games, so John is quite an accomplished Poker player with a story to tell, thought he'd also be trying to gauge just what the hell these other crazies are all about. The Armadillo Saloon from the main game would be an unlockable game location, complete with brawls from local gangs and other trouble.

Comic Character - Thing/Ben Grimm (Fantastic Four) Lastly was the comic character and this was the easiest choice as I am a HUGE Marvel fan and thus know the characters well! Ben Grimm or the Thing of the Fantastic Four is not only big, lovable and has an array of one liners to hand, but he's also an established and excellent poker player in the comics, mainly owning to having such an unreadable and rocky face! So whilst he might have great strength he's going to be your biggest challenge because he excels at poker games more than just about any hero in his universe. And you know he'll take the others in his stride and have some witty stuff for most situations. The relaxation area of the Baxter Building - the home of the Fantastic Four - would be the Inventory unlock for his character, together with appearances from the robot HERBIE and maybe even the Human Torch to wind Ben up if he loses!

Dealer - Codsworth (Fallout 4) Finally we have the dealer who can be from anywhere, so I had total pick for this one! I liked the idea of keeping a robot on the dealing side though and with GLADOS off the table, I thought that the logical choice would be Codsworth from the recently released Fallout 4, since I could easily imagine him hovering nearby like an ideal Mister Handy robot, decking out cards thanks to a handy modification by the Inventory! Polite if depressed at the situation in the Commonwealth, Codsworth is delighted to help out a pleasant team of Pre War fellows, even if some are strangely dressed or in Thing case resemble Super Mutants a little too much! The Third Rail in Goodneighbour would be the unlockable location, complete with the other Mister Handy Whitechapel Charlie and maybe some other Fallout 4 companions?

Anyway, those are my picks, hoped you liked my list! I might do another of these in the future, perhaps with some female characters since though have lacked in the games so far.
